Making the transition into teaching;
Cristina Ferreira
What did you do before becoming a teacher?
I was an IT programmer in a bank.
What inspired you to get into teaching?
I have had a passion for teaching ever since university, when I used to tutor maths. When we moved to England and I got involved in my children's school, helping out and volunteering, I was amazed by it and realised that I should have pursued this dream long ago.
How has Transition to Teach supported you so far?
From the first day, I could always count on the support from Transition to Teach, not only regarding the course but also with personal and family issues that I had to deal with during a challenging year.
Where do you see yourself in five years' time?
On top of teaching, which I love, I see myself taking part in some kind of organising/managing role and taking advantage of the experience I have from my previous career.
Finally, sum up your experience for us!
It has been an amazing year. An emotional rollercoaster for sure, but with so many highs and such valued lessons in the lows. A fantastic journey from the first time in front of a class, to the thrill of seeing them thrive with you. The hard work and perseverance have really paid off and I cannot wait to start in September.
