Making the transition into teaching;
Agnieszka Machalica

What did you do before becoming a teacher?

I was a Freelance Designer and Courier Business Owner/Partner.

What inspired you to get into teaching?

I was looking for a way to be able to share my passion for design and inside knowledge of the domestic architecture trade.

How has Transition to Teach supported you so far?

Transition to Teach has played a major role in me making the decision to change career. The support I have received from a number of Transition to Teach mentors/advisors from the moment of first contact until now has been phenomenal. I recommend the service to anyone and everyone who is interested in teaching.

I find regular conference calls, where I have a chance to share my experiences with fellow career changers, invaluable. I know I can always contact my advisor, whose advice and guidance has been outstanding.

Where do you see yourself in five years' time?

I am keen to continue my studies at postgraduate level and achieve a master’s degree. I am also interested in teaching maths as second subject. In five years’ time I would like to be considered for a leadership role at departmental level.

Finally, sum up your experience for us!

I am very happy with the level of support I have received from Transition to Teach; from help finding the right teacher training provider to the application process, financial advice, and finally, help with the job applications process. I would recommend the service to anyone who is thinking of becoming a teacher.
